Programs for Adults

We can keep our adults just as busy as our young people. Here are a few of the ministries that are available to you.

Agape Committee

The Agape Committee’s mission is to show God’s love to Metropolitan’s members and visitors.  Every time you visit our church, you’ll be greeted with a warm hug and smile – the Agape Committee ensures that this happens.  In addition, they help new members find their niche in the church; they keep the pastoral staff abreast of sick or missing members; and they promote and support various membership building activities.

Community Services

We recognize the power of giving to those in need – in our congregation, and in the community.  Our Community Services department’s food program provides groceries and household items for more than 100 families on a bi-weekly basis.  The department is also responsible for hosting church hospitality dinners and funeral repasts.  If you are willing to serve, they have a place for you.  If you know of someone in need, they are willing and able to provide assistance.

Myrtle Nora leads our community service team.

Family Life

With a membership of over 800, Metropolitan has families of all sizes and shapes.  Our Family Life department is very busy making sure that all of the various needs are met.  You’ll find programs for couples, singles, single parents, and traditional families.  The department hosts seminars on issues affecting our congregation, like stress and child raising.  They also provide events for us to have fun  – church picnics, church banquets, couples nights out, guess who’s coming to dinner – there is always something for everyone.

Cheryl Ottley coordinates all of the various family ministries.

Health Ministries

Adventists promote health as a major part of our ministry.  In keeping with this, our Health Ministries department provides many opportunities for members to learn how to develop healthy lifestyles.  The department periodically offers lifestyle change programs where members of our church and the community work together for eight to twelve weeks to eat healthier and exercise more.  Our health professionals are qualified to provide various medical screenings (blood pressure, body fat analysis, etc.), and help participants set achievable goals.  The department also offers various seminars on health issues that primarily affect African Americans.

If you are a health professional, you may be interested in their outreach work, where they visit under-developed countries to provide essential health care treatment and equipment.  This summer they will be spending 10 days in Nicaragua.

Claudette Mitchell coordinates the activities of the Health Ministries department.

Usher Ministry

The Metropolitan Usher Ministry strives to make visitors and members feel welcome and comfortable as they enter God's house.  They serve on Sabbaths and at other church events.  If you like making others feel welcome, or have a warm, welcoming smile, this might be the ministry for you!  Please visit the Usher Ministry's web page for additional details.

Monique Riviere leads this dymanic team of indiviuals.

Women’s Ministries

Our Women's Ministries Department is on a mission to empower women.  It is a network for all women to experience a new or renewed life in Christ.  It provides a non-threatening environment where women can share spiritual insights, participate in motivational events, break bread together at early morning breakfasts, develop lasting friendships, and experience enriched fellowship.

The women of our church are on fire with a passion to live God's love. Their energy is highly contagious.  The department places a strong emphasis on reaching out to the community, as well as to the church family, through prayer, visitation, and Bible studies, in an attempt to bring hope to others.  The women of Metropolitan fervently believe that “where there is much prayer, there is much power!”

The department’s motto is "Touch a Heart and Tell the World"

Wendy Wray is the dynamic leader of Metropolitan’s Women’s Ministries.
