David Asscherick laid the Bible out plain and simple.  It was an amazing weekend.  Here are some photos from Saturday's services, courtesy of Colville Heskey.  If you missed the presentations, the links below will allow you to watch them.  We HIGHLY recommend you take the time to view them.  You won't be disappointed.

Since the latter part of 2012, two groups of volunteers have prepared and served meals at Prince George's House Shelter (PGH) located in Capitol Heights, MD.  PGH is a transitional homeless shelter that houses up to 36 men.  The shelter relies on the charity and generosity of individuals to provide daily meals for the residents.

athens vbs picsOur children had a WONDERFUL time visiting Athens and learning about Paul.  Each evening was full of singing, laughing, playing, and eating.  We had a large crew from Triumphant Baptist Church join us during the week.  It was great seeing their children and ours playing and learning together.  These pictures are courtesy Claudette Smith (with one or two thrown in by Melissa Andrews).  Enjoy!  Plan to support us next year (look at the credits - it takes a LOT of volunteers to make VBS happen).

P1500364On Sunday, June 2, weeks of preparation came to a head as 58 runners and walkers gathered at 6301 Sligo Parkway and awaited the sound of the starting gun that would signal that the Metropolitan 40th Anniversary 5k Run/Walk was underway (ok - there was no gun, but that sounded good!).  We had husbands and wives, a father-mother-daughter team and siblings participate.  We had a couple of runners who decided that the day was too beautiful to just run a 5k, and so they increased their distance to 10k.  Enjoy the pictures below - courtesy Claudette Smith.  Here's the list of winners by age category, and here's the list of all runners and finish times (courtesy race timer extraordinaire - Vaughn Andrews).

tn IMG 1122Metro members showed they truly connect to their community by their generous response to our adopted school's request for help with their winter clothing drive.  Here are some pictures Latey Bradford took at the event.  Read the blog that goes along with the pictures.

pptOn January 30, we held our first Family Reunion of 2013.  What's a Family Reunion?  It's when all of our prayer meetings groups get together and have prayer meeting together.  Normally we have different classes - children, teens, Prep School and adults - all studying the same Discipleship / Desire of Ages material.  But on the last Wednesday of each month, everyone gets together to share with each other.

nametagsSabbath, January 12, was "Name Tag" day at Metropolitan.  Pastor Johns came up with the idea that - as part of our "stickiness" journey of 2013 - we should all wear name tags, so that we start becoming more familiar with one another.  The idea was a resounding success.  There were some of you who had to be convinced to wear your tags (Rhoden Rubin, Gregory Applewhite, Sr., Owen Wallace), some of you who told us that your names are not what we thought your names have been for years (Christopher Gill, Gregory Applewhite, Sr.), and some of you who tried to assume false identities (Pamela Rubin, Ursula Roberts-Allen - these two must be sisters!).  But overall, everyone was happy to participate, and at the end of service, which included a "getting to know you" segment at the end of Pastor B's sermon - people were asking when we would do it again.  Have no fear - you've not seen the end of name tags at Metro!  :-)

b-laughingOn Sabbath, January 5, Pastor Johns surprised Pastor B with visitors from the Columbia Union - (president Dave Weigley, executive secretary Rob Vandeman and treasurer Seth Bardu) - and the Allegheny East Conference (ministerial secretary Stephen Richardson) to celebrate her receipt of her revised ministerial credentials.  The credentials now say "ordained", instead of "commissioned".

WAP 5802On Saturday, October 20, a group of enthusiastic Metro members headed to Franklin Square in Washington, DC to feed the homeless.  Jenny Laquinte wrote a great blog about it that we encourage you to read because it fills in the details about the photos that you see here.  This pictures in this photo blog are courtesy Wood Angle Photography.
