On January 30, we held our first Family Reunion of 2013. What's a Family Reunion? It's when all of our prayer meetings groups get together and have prayer meeting together. Normally we have different classes - children, teens, Prep School and adults - all studying the same Discipleship / Desire of Ages material. But on the last Wednesday of each month, everyone gets together to share with each other.
Sabbath, January 12, was "Name Tag" day at Metropolitan. Pastor Johns came up with the idea that - as part of our "stickiness" journey of 2013 - we should all wear name tags, so that we start becoming more familiar with one another. The idea was a resounding success. There were some of you who had to be convinced to wear your tags (Rhoden Rubin, Gregory Applewhite, Sr., Owen Wallace), some of you who told us that your names are not what we thought your names have been for years (Christopher Gill, Gregory Applewhite, Sr.), and some of you who tried to assume false identities (Pamela Rubin, Ursula Roberts-Allen - these two must be sisters!). But overall, everyone was happy to participate, and at the end of service, which included a "getting to know you" segment at the end of Pastor B's sermon - people were asking when we would do it again. Have no fear - you've not seen the end of name tags at Metro! :-)
On Sabbath, January 5, Pastor Johns surprised Pastor B with visitors from the Columbia Union - (president Dave Weigley, executive secretary Rob Vandeman and treasurer Seth Bardu) - and the Allegheny East Conference (ministerial secretary Stephen Richardson) to celebrate her receipt of her revised ministerial credentials. The credentials now say "ordained", instead of "commissioned".
On Saturday, October 20, a group of enthusiastic Metro members headed to Franklin Square in Washington, DC to feed the homeless.
