This 'n That
Are You Registered to Vote? While our church does not endorse specific political candidates, as Christians we are expected to fulfill our civic responsibilities (paying taxes, voting, etc.) Anyone who wants to vote in the national elections on November 4 must be registered to vote (as well as be an American citizen).
If you're not sure that you're registered, you can visit http://www.voteforchange.com and find out. (We should let you know that that site is powered by the Obama campaign; if you'd like to be 'candidate-neutral', http://www.votepoke.com can also let you know if you're registered to vote.) Both sites ask for your name, email address (so they can contact you if they can't find your registration status right away), and your current address. We observed that the Vote for Change site worked best using Internet Explorer.
Can I Wear Candidate Paraphernalia when I go to Vote? Several emails have been circulating recently claiming that if you are wearing a shirt or button that endorses a particular candidate when you go to your polling location on November 4, you won't be allowed to vote. Is this true or just an urban myth?
In some cases it is true. Some states do have laws against wearing anything that endorses a particular candidate to polling locations. From what we have been able to determine, Maryland, the District and Virginia don't have any such laws. However, it is best to check with your local or state election board to find out for sure.
