We're Hitting the Streets for "Souper" Bowl Sunday!!

Written by Latey Bradford.

For most Americans Sunday, February 7th is the culmination of a manic season full of touchdowns, fantasy league wins and losses, tailgating, and all things FOOTBALL!  But while some of us are getting out our jerseys and preparing the game-day appetizers, many men and women will be outdoors, curled up on benches, resting inside Metro stations, and praying for time to pass quickly until their local shelter opens and they can finally find some reprieve from the bitterly cold winter winds.

There’s certainly nothing wrong with enjoying Super Bowl festivities, but I challenge you to take some time before the big game to do something kind for those much less fortunate than we.  Join us as we head into DC to serve bowls of hot soup and distribute warm blankets to the homeless.  This will be a mobile operation – rather than setting up in one place and waiting for them to come to us, we will be traveling around the city to find people where they are.

How can you help?

  • Meet at Metropolitan on Sunday, February 7th at 12pm to participate
  • Donate new or clean and gently-used blankets*
  • Donate money toward purchase of blankets and/or soup

Sign up here if you are interested in participating or donating supplies.

*We would prefer warm materials (such as fleece) but no over-sized comforters please; these blankets need to be easily transported/stored by the homeless.

SureTouch: A Cutting-Edge Digital Breast Exam

Written by Latey Bradford.

SureTouch 1920X450

January 30 udpate:  We have reached the number of slots we can accommodate for tomorrow's breast screening.  If you would like to know when we schedule the next screening, please click here.  For details about the exam - please continue reading.

Our church has had the privilege of working closely with Madeline Long-Gill, President and Founder of Supporting our Sisters International, Inc. (SOSI). Last year, we co-sponsored a breast cancer awareness luncheon and Praise & Worship in Pink Sabbath, both held at Metro. This breast cancer survivor support network has come to us again with an amazing opportunity to offer a revolutionary breast screening technology to the women of Metropolitan and our surrounding community.

SureTouch is FDA-cleared for producing surface map of the breast as an aid to document palpable breast lesions identified during a clinical breast exam. Breasts are examined quickly and comfortably without compression or radiation. The patented, hand-held, SureTouch wand glides easily over the entire breast and underarm area. Its 192 sensing elements capture and document the shape, location, size and hardness of breast lesions. (www.suretouch.us)
