tn Homeless Outreach wide tOn January 26, we are inviting our church family to take part in an outreach event at CCNV Shelter in DC to serve the homeless.  We will serve a meal as well as give away clothes.  If you're interested in helping, please complete our volunteer form
How can you help?  We are asking members to contribute the following: 12 oz boxes of Special K (Original), boxes of uncooked elbow macaroni, whole corn kernels (canned or frozen), cases of bottled water, and clothes.  We are asking particularly for warm clothes such as socks, hats, gloves and coats.  Containers for these items will be placed in the Fellowship Hall by Sabbath, January 5.  The deadline for food and clothes donations is January 19.
We will also need volunteers to help us set-up, serve, assist with clothes giveaway, mingle with our guests, breakdown and clean up.  We will also need volunteers to assist with the sorting and boxing of clothes prior to our outreach event.
This outreach will take place after the 11:00 a.m. service.  CCNV is located at 425 2nd St. NW.  Weather permitting, we will set up tables on the sidewalk in front of the building.  If it should rain or snow, we will set up inside the building. We are asking members to carpool.  Directions will be provided.
Once we finish serving and ministering to our guests, we'll have a warm meal for all of our volunteers.
We are looking forward to this outreach and hope to see see many of you there.  You can reach Jenny Laquinte ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) or Vonric Bradford ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) if you have questions.  If you will be volunteering, we would appreciate it if you would complete our volunteer form.  Completing the form will help us make sure that we have enough food for you if you will be helping us.

tn help wide tThis evening, I responded to a text from one of my girlfriends.  My response was a day late, and she responded that she'd already gotten the information another way.  Feeling a little guilty, I texted back and asked if everything was ok.  She responded - "Honestly - no!"  And went on to tell me that she was pretty much at the end of her rope.  She was mentally, physically, and spiritually EXHAUSTED (emphasis hers).  I read the text and didn't know what to do.  Without divulging all her business, she is a mom who has unexpectedly been left to deal with her three children on her own, as well as handle other stuff going on in her family.  We texted back and forth a bit - her feeling guilty that she was admitting that she could do no more, that she wasn't strong enough to do it on her own; me trying to get her to see that it's okay to be weak.  We ALL are weak at some point.  Finally, I offered - you need to go away.  By yourself.  Do it over a weekend, and I'll keep the children for you.  She said she'll think about it.
