My name is Krystal Tomlin, I recently moved to Maryland from Orlando, Florida. I enjoy music, health and fitness, meeting new people and a well constructed grill cheese (among many other pescetarian friendly foods -- minus the shellfish of course--)! Any ministry that encompasses any of these things and gives me an opportunity to serve the God that I love so much is alright with me!

Spiritual Water Bottles

tn living water for a thirsty soul wide t nvMany of us have been coming to Prep School and being spiritually fed for the past year and growing more and more each day. Like the disciples, we are being trained and groomed not for just our own benefit, but to go out and share God with others. Thankfully I've been learning that I don't necessarily need to be the preacher or even the teacher.  I can simply be a doer, for others!

As we begin to focus more on service at Prep School, we have come up with a few ideas about things we can do for others that will help to build relationships within our community.  Our first outreach activity is called "Spiritual Water Bottles." This is a simple ministry that we can do together and on a daily basis! Anytime, anywhere!

All you have to do is get a bottle of water, attach a word of encouragement and/or scripture and a warm smile, and voila!  You've created a "Spiritual Water Bottle".  The messages attached to the bottle can change, but the purpose is the same.  On an individual level, we can give water to people we meet along our travel paths on a daily basis, on especially hot days. Collectively, as a church, we can go out into the community to places where we know people may be in need or outside in the heat. From the homeless to the random person we meet, we can begin building relationships with others.

It's a simple gesture that can go a long way!  Pastor Billingy reminded us on Wednesday evening - we too, like Peter said to the crippled beggar, can say, "Silver or gold have I none, but what I have, I give to you!"  Let's use what we have (starting small) and give to our community.

On Sabbath, June 9, after our Family Feast lunch sharing in the parking lot at Metro, we will begin this ministry by reaching out to the communities closest to us and sharing water with those in need.  All we need is water, some fruits and YOU (we'll provide the messages to attach to the bottles)!

How can you help?

1.  Join us as we go out into the community on Sabbath. Email us (weconnect@metrosda.org) and let us know you're coming, or just meet us in the parking lot.

2.  Purchase a case (or two) of bottled water and bring to church on Sabbath

3.  If you're unable to serve this Sabbath, plan to do so the next time our Spiritual Water Bottles outreach is announced (we'll be doing this a few times this summer)

Our message is simple:  we want to love and serve our community.
