P1500364On Sunday, June 2, weeks of preparation came to a head as 58 runners and walkers gathered at 6301 Sligo Parkway and awaited the sound of the starting gun that would signal that the Metropolitan 40th Anniversary 5k Run/Walk was underway (ok - there was no gun, but that sounded good!).  We had husbands and wives, a father-mother-daughter team and siblings participate.  We had a couple of runners who decided that the day was too beautiful to just run a 5k, and so they increased their distance to 10k.  Enjoy the pictures below - courtesy Claudette Smith.  Here's the list of winners by age category, and here's the list of all runners and finish times (courtesy race timer extraordinaire - Vaughn Andrews).

[Whom do you recognize in this group of walkers?]

[Valrie Applewhite waves for the camera]

[Ricky Brathwaite heads down the home stretch]

[Dawn and Derek Peters finished a second apart; they left mom way back on the trail]

[This was a professional race with balloons at the finish line and everything!  That's Bro. Cadiz triumphantly making his way to the finish line]

[Margaret McCleary ushers AND runs 5ks!]

[Our favorite senior pastor isn't happy about something!]

[This event was well supported by the Caesar family]

[Rhonda Billingy and Vanessa Pratt review the results]

[For a while, we feared we'd lost Mavis, so we sent Jonathan to go find her.  As you can see, she was quite ok!]

[The race participants.  Ummm...the two Andrews children did not run; they just like to be in things!]

[The extremely helpful, efficient volunteers]

[After the race, back at the ranch, er, church - participants listened to health seminars and purchased good-for-you-food, like granola]
