tn School Supply DriveIt’s only mid-July and yet the back-to-school frenzy has already begun! TV ads are advertising the latest back-to-school fashions and stores are promoting their back-to-school sales for all your school supplies needs. Pencils, notebooks, crayons, ruler, protractor, tissue, hand sanitizer…. The list gets longer every year!

Although you might shake your head and let out a sigh of exasperation over the back-to-school hustle and bustle, you endure it and make sure your children have what they need. There are many among us, though, who are not so fortunate. While the start of the new school year is an exciting time for some, many families are burdened with distress over the school supplies and clothing that they cannot afford to buy for their children.

Our students at G.E. Peters Elementary and Ridgecrest Elementary (…you remember our adopted school, don’t you?) are preparing to head back to school on August 19 and we want to make sure that as many students as possible have what they need for a productive and successful school year. So Metro, they need your help!

God has already blessed us in an awesome way by providing nearly 400 bookbags for this project, so now we just need to fill them up with the school supplies!

Here is the list of supplies we are collecting:

Hand sanitizer
Clorox wipes
Boxes of facial tissue
Composition books
Plastic school box
Glue sticks / bottles of glue
#2 pencils
Crayons (24 ct)
Ziploc bags (sandwich size)
Pencil sharpeners with caps/covers
Lined notebook paper, ruled
Pocket folders
You can also make a monetary donation, and we’ll purchase supplies on your behalf

Our Home and School and Education Departments are coordinating the distribution for GE Peters, and I’ll be coordinating for Ridgecrest. Both schools need basically the same supplies, so you can put your donations in the labeled bin in the Fellowship Hall. We will ensure that they are distributed equitably. If you have specific questions about GE Peters, contact Angella Browne, and for Ridgecrest, contact Latey Bradford (937.554.9725 or This email address is being protected from spambots. The parents, students and teachers of these students thank you in advance for your help…and so do I!

Note: Each school has a specific list of supplies needed for each grade. Mrs. Rubin, our church secretary, has hard copies of these lists, for members who may be interested in seeing them, and providing specialty items – like Bibles, USB drives, etc. The items we are requesting you to donate are the items specified most often on the lists

LLB 101 : I liken myself to a lightbulb -- when the power is turned on, all you can see is the radiance of the light that is emitted. You see my compassion, ambition, and charisma ... But when the power is turned off you recognize that its just a light bulb. Simply put... I am nothing without God, but with Him I know no limits!!
