Metropolitan is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and there are a series of events planned to commemorate the occasion. The first is our 5k run/walk. You can run, walk, or do a combination of the two - just have fun doing it! Each race participant will receive a commemorative race t-shirt. The starting line is at the Green Meadows Community Park Building at 6301 Sligo Parkway, Hyattsville, MD 20782. Check-in is at 7:00 a.m. and race start is 8:00 a.m. Prizes will be awarded based on the following categories: top male and female ages 5 - 15, 16 - 35, 36 - 50 and 50+ (total of 8). Awards for the 5k will be announced after the race, at the church, at 11:00 a.m.
Post race activities include FREE snacks and refreshments for all participants. There will be health seminars, and smoothies and healthy brunch food and drinks for sale. This will take place at the church while race results are tabulated.
We've included a special "virtual runner" category! This is for former Metropolitan members who would like to support the event, but who can't make it to the race in person. You'll plan to run or walk the 5k at the same time that we're doing it on June 2, but you'll do it wherever you are! Register online and choose the "virtual runner" category. You'll receive your race t-shirt in the mail.
Each Sunday between now and the race, we'll hold training runs at the race location; we start at 7:30 a.m.
Online registration will close on Friday, May 31 at 6:00 p.m. In-person registration will continue at church on Saturdays between now and the race, and on race day starting at 7:00 a.m. Race packets will be available for pickup on Saturday evening, June 1 at 8:00 p.m. at the church, and on Sunday morning at the race location.
