Metro Knocks - A Request from Pastor Johns

tn XsandOs tOn Sabbath, June 15, Principal Dunn from Ridgecrest Elementary visited us and shared how grateful and excited she was about what Metropolitan has been doing, and will do, for her school and her students.  She was so enthused about joining us on our Jericho Walk that she stayed after church waiting to go out with us, even though her daughter’s birthday party was taking place at the same time!  (As soon as I found that out though, I sent her straight home!)

Metro – I am excited about how God has been leading us as we’ve started our community outreach.  Your generosity to the students at Ridgecrest has already started to see returns.  We have planned to do a backpack drive for both Ridgecrest and G.E. Peters when school starts again in August, and God has already provided 400 backpacks for us!  Free of charge!

Now, I want to introduce you to the next aspect of our outreach.

On Sabbath afternoon, July 13, immediately after the 11 o’clock service, we are going to go into the community around Ridgecrest, two-by-two, just as Jesus sent the disciples, taking prayer requests.  Simultaneously, we’ll have other members performing community visibility activities, also known as “random acts of kindness” – distributing bottled water, giving balloons to kids, etc.

I am encouraging, NO, BEGGING, you to come out!  It’s really easy to take a prayer request – “Hi, my name is Marquis, and I’m from a nearby church.  We’d love to pray with you.  Is there something specific you’d like us to pray for?” Then you pray.  And move on to the next house.  Short and simple.  No need for a Bible study, a 2300-day prophecy lecture, or even leaving a copy of Steps to Christ as giveaway material.  We’re just praying with our neighbors.  You CAN do this!!

Please think seriously about joining those of us that will be going.  After service, you’ll be organized into teams, you'll receive your instructions, and we’ll all head out – wearing our Metro Church t-shirts!  You'll have at most 10 houses to visit, so it won't take long at all! You should be finished in about half an hour.

I also want to ask you to commit to doing prayer requests with us once a month.  We are going to do this again on Sabbath, July 20, and then at least one Sabbath a month, through the end of the year. We want our neighbors to become accustomed seeing our blue t-shirts in the community. As I said, it will take at most about half an hour of your time after service.  Would you be able to commit to 30 minutes of service for our Master?

If you have questions, I'm happy to answer them.  You can also reach out to any of our team leaders:  Adrienne Andrews, Melissa Andrews, Vonric Bradford, Latéy Bradford, Ricky Brathwaite, Jenny Laquinte, Theo Milford or Mto Ngwenya.

I look forward to us having a grand time on July 13 as Metro Connects to our Community through Prayer.

Pastor Johns joined our congregation in June of 2011 and his infectious love for Christ has us all energized and ready to evangelize. Pastor Johns has a passion for personal evangelism and he desires to make us all serious students of the Bible so that we can share what we know. His Wednesday evening Bible study program - Prep School - is unlike anything you've ever seen, but it will get you delving into the Word as you may have never done before. He believes "this is our church; this is our city!"
