April 5 BTW Recap: We Stayed and Prayed

prayer-and-fastingSabbath April 5 was a memorable day of good deeds, songs, prayer and praise, as we gathered with a special sense of purpose. While most of Metro's members went out to serve the community as part of our special project called "Beyond the Walls”, a small group of worshipers remained at the church in fasting and prayer. The songs "Bringing in the Sheaves" and "Seeking the Lost" took on an extra special meaning.

Brother Cadiz and Sister McKenzie led out in a discussion about how to approach our spiritual journey.  Sister McKenzie recounted her experience of being on the early morning prayer line. She emphasized the need to "surrender all to Jesus."  Once we give Him our burdens, we should never carry them around anymore.

Brother Cadiz – who always responds to the question “How are you doing?” by saying “I am happy” – reminded us that overcomers have joyful countenances.  The group members were encouraged thus:  We cannot always pray our troubles away, but  God will walk us through them, and in the end we would have learned humility, endurance, and fortitude. We learned that we can pray always wherever we are, and whatever position or posture we are in – kneeling, sitting, lying or standing.  We read many verses of Scripture as example of this being done:  1st Chronicles 17:16-27; 1st Kings 8:54; 1st Kings 8:22; Nehemiah 8:6; Nehemiah 9:5 and many more recorded examples.

We prayed diligently for our Christian soldiers (our members) going to different locations in the surrounding communities, ministering to others.  We prayed that God would cover them and for safety and success in their ministry.  We also gave testimonies of God’s goodness, to remind ourselves that God does hear our prayers, and that He would hear our prayers for those who had gone Beyond the Walls.

As members who had gone out into the community returned to the church, some of them joined the prayer group and were encouraged to share their experiences.  There was great excitement about how many in the community were blessed by their interactions with our members, and the blessings that our members received.  Sister Greta especially could not contain herself.  We agreed that this needs to done to be done again. It was indeed a day of many being blessed.

We listened attentively as Pastor Billingy shared with us how Pastor Johns came up with the plan the "Beyond the Walls" effort. We thanked God for a beautiful Sabbath day filled with sunshine in which to express His love. We ended our fasting and prayer session with prayer, with joy in our hearts and smiles on our faces.
